Several
centuries before Christ, the Keltic tribe of the Parisii
settled on a small island on the river Seine (the famous Île
de la cité).
Centuries later, Romans named the place Lutèce. The
city started its expansion on the left bank of the Seine.
Only later did Paris become the capital of the kingdom.
Whilst being at the heart of a long and tumultuous period of invasions,
wars and revolutions, Paris has always been a jewel of culture,
creativity and taste.

Several
millenia before Christ, the Indian tribe of the Ohlone
settled in the Bay Area.
In 1579, Francis Drake entered a foggy area surrounded by cliffs
and dubbed the place Nova Albion.
In 1769, Spaniards discovered the entrance to the bay, settled
in 1776 and built El Presidio and La misión de
San Francisco de Asis.
In January 1848, a lucky guy found gold and triggered the famous
(infamous?:) rush.
In 1906 and 1989, the city experienced disastrous earthquakes
and showed the world how hard and quick it can get back up on
its feet.
